Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie, PA
Bear Creek Mountain Resort & Conference Center is nestled on over 330 wooded acres in scenic Berks County, Pennsylvania about 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The four-season destination resort offers skiing, snowboarding, tubing, spa getaways, hotel stays, dining and access to special events. Hiking, mountain biking, fishing and boating are common during the warmer months of the year. The resort has a 116-room hotel, a full-service salon and spa, three dining facilities and over 26,000 square feet of banquet and meeting space.
Problem
Bear Creek Mountain Resort’s rural & hilly location presents numerous challenges to the coverage and performance of cellular networks in the region. The resort began booking corporate events, banquets and weddings in the mid-to-late 2000s. The most common complaint from guests who attended events was the lack of any cellular coverage inside the hotel, lodge, restaurant and common areas of the resort. Southern Management Corp, owner and operator of the resort, recognized that the only way to solve the chronic problem was to deploy a multi-carrier DAS.
Solution
Southern Management Corp funded the deployment of the original DAS in 2008. Intenna began supporting the DAS in 2014 and completed a major system-wide upgrade in 2016. Intenna continues to monitor and maintain the DAS while staff and guests enjoy reliable cellular services throughout the entire facility.
