Comcast Technology Center in Philadelphia, PA
Comcast Technology Center officially opened in 2018. The tower is 1,121 feet high over 62 stories and provides nearly 1.6M square feet of office, television studio, and hotel space. The building expands Comcast’s global headquarters and became the new home for NBC 10, Telemundo and the Four Seasons Philadelphia Hotel.
Problem
Targeted to be the innovation and technology center of Comcast Corporation, it was essential that this new and expanded headquarters building remain on the leading edge of wireless and DAS technology for both today & well into the future. In addition to typical high rise cellular network challenges in urban environments, Comcast employees and other mobile users generate an enormous demand for bandwidth on wireless platforms.
Solution
Intenna Systems designed & supported the deployment of a fiber-to-the-edge (FTTE) DAS using the most advanced DAS platform available. The network provides many advanced capabilities compared to older generations of DAS technology and it enables significant growth potential when carrier 4G networks begin the transition to 5G in the next few years. The cellular DAS is owned and managed by a third party neutral host provider with Intenna providing ongoing support as needed. Intenna also designed and deployed a separate, stand-alone 2-way radio network DAS to enable mobile communications in the UHF band for use by Facilities and Security staff.
